Congratulations on being elected as an NEA RA Delegate! As we go forward in this process, you will receive future emails, including a survey, passing on pertinent NEA RA information from OEA and NEA; please keep an eye out for these emails as they come through. Your participation and voice as an elected Ohio delegate is needed and important.

The 2025 NEA RA will be held this year at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, OR.

Ohio Night will be July 1, so please plan to arrive by that evening. The NEA RA has on-site Registration on July 2, and the 2025 NEA RA will run July 3-6.

The most current delegate information including the tentative agenda, is updated daily and you are encouraged to visit www.nea.org/ra for the most accurate information regarding the NEA RA.

NEA RA Registration
NEA will launch the 2025 RA virtual delegate registration early June, via Cvent. You will receive the invite directly from NEA.

NEA RA Host Hotels
NEA has selected our (3) hotels for us this year. Links will be available in the next email, but you are welcome to call and book under the Ohio Education Association. Not everyone will fit into the Sheraton, so we have the two other overflow hotels.

  • The Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel as our primary hotel where OEA will Caucus. 8235 NE Airport Way, Portland, OR 97220. (503) 281-2500
  • The Hampton Inn Portland Airport, shares a parking lot with the Sheraton. 8633 NE Airport Way, Portland, OR 97220 (503) 288-2423
  • The Aloft Portland Airport at Cascade Station, is a mile walk to the Sheraton or 1.4 miles by vehicle. There will be shuttles to get you to the Sheraton. Cascade Station also offers shopping and restaurants nearby. 9920 NE Cascades Pkwy, Portland, OR 97220. (503) 200-5678

All three hotels offer a rate of $169.00 plus applicable taxes (Currently 16%).

We do have a mix of Double rooms and King rooms blocked aside for OEA. 

Delegate Caucus Meetings
Ohio’s NEA RA delegates will have their first caucus virtually on June 14 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. All NEA Delegates are expected to attend. This caucus will be held on the Zoom platform.

  • Participants will be able to log in as early at 8:00 a.m. into the virtual waiting room with the meeting starting at 8:30 a.m.
  • If you are an At-Large State delegate unable to attend the June 14 caucus, any of the caucus meetings or NEA RA sessions, you must be excused by OEA President Scott DiMauro. You will need to send an e-mail to President DiMauro at dimauros@ohea.org with a copy to William Baird at bairdw@ohea.org explaining the reason for your absence. 

The remaining caucuses will be held in-person at the Portland Sheraton Airport Hotel.

  • Wednesday, July 2, 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, July 3, 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

OEA will once again host Ohio Night! It will be a chance for the delegates to gather, have dinner and dancing on the evening of July 1 at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel.  You will want to make sure your travel plans allow for you to attend. As a delegate your ticket is included, but you may purchase an additional ticket for a guest. More information will follow once plans are solidified with the hotel.

HCR and LGBTQ+ Events
Two of the amazing events that happen at the NEA RA are the HCR dinner on July 2 at the Oregon Convention Center, and the LGBTQ+ dinner at the Holiday Inn Portland-Columbia Riverfront on July 5. There are a very limited number of tickets available. On your upcoming survey, you can select your first and second choices to attend. If we have more interest than we have tickets available, delegates will be chosen at random. If you will attend either event with a ticket from your district, please do not enter the OEA drawing for tickets.

NEA Conference on Racial and Social Justice Funding Opportunity
OEA is again offering NEA RA Delegates an opportunity to receive a scholarship to attend the NEA Conference on Racial and Social Justice taking place in Portland, OR.  This year’s conference will take place at the Oregon Convention Center (June 29-July 1, 2025*), with the theme of “Promote. Protect. Strengthen. Public Education: A Joyous Rebellion!” *June 29 is a pre-conference day and attendees are encouraged to arrive on June 29 to check in early, participate in the 2025 CRSJ Film Festival, and network at the Justice Social reception.
 
Please click here to view scholarship guidelines for NEA RA Delegates and information on how to apply for funding from OEA.  The deadline for submitting your information to OEA for consideration is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, and selected attendees must register by May 12.

NEA Choir Opportunity
Each state has the opportunity to have a primary and alternate delegate to join the NEA Choir and will get to sing the National Anthem and an additional song at the opening ceremonies. Please email neara@ohea.org by May 29, at 4:00 pm, if you are interested. If we have multiple people interested, we will draw names for the delegate and their (if needed) alternate.

NEA Resolutions Committee
The NEA Resolutions Committee Declaration of Candidacy Form can be accessed via this link – https://ohea.delta-cloud.com/nea-resolutions-committee/

The declaration of candidacy form must be completed by delegates interested in running for the NEA Resolutions Committee, which meets several times per year by virtual meeting or at the NEA headquarters in Washington, DC.  Please note the following:

  • Interested delegates must submit the form, complete with biographical sketch and platform statement, no later than 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
  • If the number of members who submit forms is greater than the number of Resolutions Committee positions, the order of names on the ballot and the candidate speaking order shall be determined by the candidate, or their designee, by a drawing of lots at the conclusion of the first delegate caucus on June 14, 2025, with Secretary-Treasurer Rob McFee.
  • Each candidate shall be allotted two minutes to address the Delegation at the caucus on July 3.
  • The election shall be by secret ballot at the caucus session on July 3.
  • NEA Resolutions Committee members (the number of which to be designated by NEA) shall be determined by the number of votes received in order of first to last candidate.  The alternate members shall be determined on the same ballot by the same method.  The NEA recommendation concerning Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) representation shall be observed.

NEA Registration
NEA sent out the first invitation to register for the NEA RA yesterday. You should have received an invite from Cvent. NEA will continue to send invites to all elected delegates twice a week. Please make sure when you fill out your registration that you use the same email, as that is how they will communicate to you and how you will check in onsite.
 
New Delegate Orientation
New delegates and any returning delegates wanting to refresh their knowledge are invited to attend a New Delegate Orientation via Zoom on June 17 at 4:00 pm. This Zoom orientation will be led by NEA Director Angel Dyer-Sanchez and is “”Is all about equipping you, the new delegate, with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to be an effective voice for your members.”

NEA Choir Opportunity

Childcare
Childcare is available at the NEA RA. If you need it please follow the following process:

  1. Download the Childcare Waiver/Meal Order Form.
  2. Fill out and sign the documents and save them to your computer for uploading.
  3. Click here to register your child for childcare.
  4. Upload your signed documents to the bottom of the form and submit.
  5. Repeat for EACH additional child that you need to register.
